Homesteading Gardenista

Gardenista

You, m’dear, have a green thumb. For real. You can’t wait for the first sign of spring to get your fingers in the dirt. Or better yet, you garden year around in every corner of your house and if you don’t already have a greenhouse, the plans are made up! You don’t have animals, aside from your loving dog and cat, but you do realize the importance of growing your own food for the health of your family. Gardening is your way of providing for your family by giving them good, healthy food year around and by cutting the cost of groceries substantially. Gardening is your breath of fresh air. It almost makes you giddy when the first signs of life are sprouting. And it makes you feel unstoppable when you are harvesting all the produce.

As a Gardenista, you are a wealth of knowledge and even if you tend to be on the more introverted end of the spectrum, you do desire to help anyone who may ask you a question or needs a helping hand.

If you could garden year around and for a full time income, you would!

That may not be an option, depending on your job, but with a different look on your situation, you may realize that you can add gardening to your life more than you think.

Here are a few suggestions. If you would like to move forward with your dream, take it seriously. Your dreams will only take you as far as you put them.

So dream.

Dream big and deep and wide and in full color. 🙂

To get you started, download this PDF, print it out and fill it in.

After you get your idea sheet printed and filled in, please keep these in mind as you reach to find and fulfill your dreams:

Eliminate Distractions

This will look different for each one of us but I have a feeling one thing popped into your mind when you read this. So, this week, work on weeding out that one distraction. And the next week, work on another one. You get the picture 🙂 You may have started out your gardening journey with passion, but if your passion has waned a bit, consider how you are spending your time. Refocus by eliminating how you are spending your time.

Work on the most important task

For myself, I find it easy to get weighed down by a long to-do list. But many times I haven’t taken the time to figure out which task is the most important and which task will get me closer to my long-term goals. Write out your to-do list right now and then put the list in order of the most important task to the least. Work every day on the most important task.

Focus on your own work, your own life

With the advent of Facebook, came the desire and ability to keep up with anyone and everyone. But don’t forget about YOU. Don’t fear the dreams and desires that God has placed in your heart. Believe in yourself. This week, begin to trust yourself, trust that your life is important and that you can AND SHOULD focus on your life, and the dreams within. If you have found that your focus has shifted to things that don’t get you closer to your dreams, get back on track by thinking about what is best for you and your family.

Continue right where you are.

It is so easy to have “the grass is greener on the other side mentality.” Although you should dream and plan, you should also keep learning, and investing right where you are. Invest in those things that can continue to be used and applied no matter where you end up.  Pick one task to that you know needs to be done, that will get you one step farther along.

Stay out of debt.

You already know this, debt will hold you back. If you already are debt free, continue that way. There is nothing that can set you back more than strapping yourself to debt. If you know you need an a large item, get out the calculator and figure out how you can buy it without any loans or credit cards.  Continue to live within your means.

Your heritage is now. Don’t let your fears stop you from stepping forward.

See you in the next chapter of homesteading 🙂
